When our client bought the run-down C18th farmhouse just outside Bruton, the building was poorly connected to its garden and lacked a generous family room. Our brief was to help restore the building and reorganise the interiors, but also to create a new and unexpected living space that connected to the garden.
In close discussion with the conservation and planning team at Somerset, we developed a simple, but meticulously detailed charred-timber extension, distinct and legible from the farmhouse. Tall oak-beamed ceilings, plastered walls and concrete floors create a paired-back interior, ideal for displaying our clients’ contemporary art collection, while large sliding doors and carefully placed windows address the garden, re-landscaped by local designers Viriditas.
The project combines restoration with contemporary design, transforming the original farmhouse into a unique and inviting family home.
